Gita Gōvindam consists of 12 sargās and 24 padams, similar to the Gāyatri Mantra’s 24 aksharas and the Bhāgavatam’s I2 sargās or cantos. Each padam consists of eight stanzas, hence it is called as Ashtapadi. The entire set of padams were notated in a short span of time and maximum care is taken to ensure flawless notations and correct lyrics.
