#22-Analysis of Kalyani Ata Tala Varnam

Kalyani Ata tala Varnam, Vanajakshi, has a  majestic gait in itself and as such the  Raga Kalyani   is the most graceful raga.  Any serious student of Carnatic Music should learn this Ata Tala Varnam knowing all its beauty as it brings out the swaroopa of this raga in all its colour and dimensions.  The varnam stands out distinctly for its ability to showcase the contour of the raga, its typical gamakas, the pauses, its gait and gamut. The beauty of this raga is further enhanced making it more colourful with the several instances of Panchama Varja Prayogas in this varnam. The texture of each note and the various shapes it assumes in combination with other swaras can be sensed generally in  the form of composition named Varnam.  The Kalyani Ata Tala Varnam is a master piece composed by the great musician Pallavi Gopala Iyer,  the student of Pachchimariyam Adiyappaiah – the legendary composer of the majestic Bhairavi Ata Tala Varnam.
