Once again, the auspicious Navarathri has started. As mentioned earlier in this blog, Navarathri is the worship of Goddess in the forms of Durga , Lakshmi and Saraswathi on nine days followed by Vijayadasami on the tenth day. The first three days we worship Goddess Durga who is “Durgathi Haarini “, one who removes all evil thoughts and evil tendencies from our mind. The aspect of “Tamo Guna” characterised by Mahishasura – the embodiment of greed, absolute laziness(jadatwam) is completely destroyed. Hence she is described as Mahishasura Mardhini.
Blessed to offer my most heartfelt respects to all the Gurus in my life in this Guru Poornima day. This post begins with my humble salutations at the lotus feet of the most revered Gurus who appeared in my life on various stages right from my childhood till now. My namaskarams to the ADI GURU, – Lord Dakshinamurthy, the embodiment of knowledge, the destroyer of avidya/ignorance and bestower of janana/knowledge. HE is the Cosmic Guru, the personification of spiritual wisdom who imparts knowledge through the subtlest form of speech- para vak – beyond the range of the physical ear, abiding in silence. HE sits under Vata Vruksha facing the Dakshin/South symbolizing creation with the half open eyes symbolising both internal and external awareness.
We are all born empty-handed and are destined to leave the world in the same manner. But we are born, and we are born for a purpose. Why are we here on Earth ? We are here in this world with a bundle of unique talents that allows us to readily realize the purpose of our life.
A teacher and his student were walking from one village to another, when they suddenly heard a roar behind them. Turning their gaze in the direction of the roar, they saw a big tiger following them.
The first thing the student wanted to do was to run away, but since he has been studying and practicing self-discipline, he was able to halt himself from running, and wait to see what his teacher would do.
Wishing all a Very Divine Sivarathri ..
Lord Shiva, the Lord of mercy and compassion, protects devotees from all negative forces like lust, greed, and anger. He grants boons, bestows grace and awakens wisdom in His devotees. The symbolism discussed below includes major symbols that are common to all pictures and images of Shiva venerated by Hindus. Since the tasks of Lord Shiva are numerous, He cannot be symbolized in one form. For this reason the images of Shiva vary significantly in their symbolism. ..

There are two ways in which our needs can be taken care of. One is the material. For example, when we have ill health we can go to a doctor for medical treatment. But a time comes when no human aid can help. Then we look to the other way, to the Spiritual Power, the Maker of our body, mind, and soul. Material power is limited, and when it fails, we turn to the unlimited Divine Power. Likewise with our financial needs; when we have done our best, and still it is inadequate, we turn to that other Power.…

Man’s word is Spirit in man….Words saturated with sincerity, conviction, faith, and intuition are like highly explosive vibration bombs, which, when set off, shatter the rocks of difficulties and create the change desired. Each thought of depression or happiness, irritability or calmness, cuts subtle grooves in the brain cells and strengthens the tendencies toward sickness or well-being.
The act of singing is one of the easiest ways of raising the vibration of your body as you harmonize with the universe.
Singing is an act of vibration. It takes music from the realm of the unformed– whether that is in your mind or from that magical space of inspiration–and moves it from within to without. From the first breath singing moves the energy in a circular way inside your body. As the breath fills your lungs, it brushes against the second and third chakras—the centers of creation and honoring self and others. Instead of merely exhaling, pushing the air past the fourth and fifth chakras where heart chakra and the center of will and intention reside, singing engages both the heart and mind.
The crossing of this Endless ocean of samsara is enabled
by the boat that is sincere devotion to Guru
Showing me the way to the valuable dominion of renunciation,
O dear Guru, I bow to thy holy sandals.
